"The end is near! Finally..." - The second least confortable cars ever (worst are the 900-series) is about to retire. When GO Transit got rid of their cars, a bunch was leased to MBTA (Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority) and MARC (Maryland Rail Commuter Service) and then returned. Quebec on his side purchased more than 80 units in 1994. After few years of storage at Soulanges Industries in Les Cèdres QC, they have been lightly rebuilt and went in service from 1997-1999. A small quantity has been modified in 2000-2001 for high doors service on the St-Hilaire line.



Built by Hawker Siddeley from 1967 to 1976 for GO Transit, the series was delivered as the RT-85 series. Here is the first lot delivered at GO Willowbrook Shops in November 1976.

Notice there were no window on the front door and no stripes. C756 is now AMT 200 and C757 is AMT 107. The picture has been taken at GO Willowbrook Shops in November 1967.

RTC-85SP cars (D700-D708) were delivered as "self propelled cars", powered by 1 Rolls-Royce 330hp motor and transmission. Cars were also equipped with a GM powered genset for onboard power (power could not be transmitted to other cars). They have been de-motored in 1975.

(D700 and D701 were classified as RTC-85SPD)

The good years of the Riverain! AMT 1301 & 1306 were proudly wearing the Riverain scheme, with a bunch of GO cars on Dorion-Rigaud line. This scheme didn't last long (only 2 years, +/- 1999 to 2001). Pictures by William Baird



Cars on service for AMT (Agence Métropolitaine de Transport). In January 2010, AMT started to retire cars from the St-Hilaire line and sent them to CP for service on Dorion-Rigaud, Blainville/St-Jerome and Delson/Candiac. On the St-Hilaire line, the last set was removed on February 22nd 2010. On the CP side, the first cars to retired were on July 16-17, 2010.

The number of cars in service will decrease from June 2010 to completely dissapear in February 2011. There is currently a thermal cracks problem on these cars and they have to be verified on a daily basis. MyRailfan's pictures
